WET PAINT DREAMZ
MY NAME IS MARIAM
I am a Syrian mixed media artist exploring the themes of mental health, bodily autonomy, identity, home, social justice, and how they intersect. I work predominantly in London, UK.
I am inspired by my day-to-day life as a human, sister, daughter, consumer, worker, Arab woman in London, a migrant. I explore these identities, how they intersect in daily life, my lived experiences, and in and my memories.
I work with spray paint, acrylics, newspaper cut outs, oil pastels, whatever I can get my hands on to produce visual art that conveys these conversations through rich colours and textures through energetic lines and swirls that I have developed up over the years of practice, especially in combatting depression & anxiety.
Art is therapy to me and has been my form of escapism and play for over a decade. Making art from day 1 has been a way of survival…through art, I don't need to worry about maintaining a certain character, and I can just be myself and connect with others.
Born in Saudi Arabia, Syrian, moved to England in 2010.
